Title: Brother mine Theme: Hard Life Medium: charcoal I saw these kids on NatGeo documentary and I was shattered. II wrote the small poem below as a piece to go with my sketch. I’m neither a poet nor am I trying to be one. I kept typing as it came to my mind and what I felt at the moment. So, pardon the complete lack of my poetic prowess and just humor me. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Brother Mine * By Lakshmi Rajagopal A young pauper Outside holy door Jubilee year is a-comin! Gather ye bowl while ye may Betake thyself for ye shall receive a fare Just a day, you say? Hear the knell, brother, Fetch you shall a fare Ben cotto o al dente for ye shall see many a dives who shall give you their share Oh! mód-leóf bróder cheated his fate Borrowed time he has Kept the reaper away, Just awhile longer Your leof bróder awaits his fare Can he cheat the grim longer? For he longeth to see thy sunkist weary face. You say, “Sit here and rest, leof bróder! Lie down on this steadfast sand for I shall bring back the mercy of dives!”
